Angels and Names

{ And when your Lord said to the angels, “I am creating a vicegerent on earth,” they said, “Will You place therein one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?” He said, “Indeed, I know that which you do not know.” (30) And He taught Adam the names - all of them. Then He showed them to the angels and said, “Inform Me of the names of these, if you are among the truthful.” (31) They said, “Exalted are You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise.” (32) Surah Al-Baqarah.

What are these names that God taught Adam?

The angels observed the previous patterns filled with corruption, referring to the world of animals that was dominated by the world of jinn, as animals possess a layer of imagination. However, God taught Adam among billions of paths how to find the paths that lead him to the divine purpose. The divine purpose is mentioned in the statement, “And we glorify Your praise and sanctify You,” meaning to sanctify the meaning with water, which means reaching a degree of purity such that flaws disappear completely.

This implies that angels were created sacred, while humans were created incomplete and weak, and it is only humans who achieve the purpose. This means they purify themselves, elevate themselves, and rise to reach the level of the angels.

Angels were created perfect and without defect, which prevents them from disobedience, as defects and shortcomings are the causes of disobedience. Attaining perfection and sanctity leads to the absence of defects and disobedience, unifying one's will with the divine will, which is the ultimate purpose of all this.

Angels were created complete and sacred, so they did not know how to transition from sin to righteousness. They did not understand what repentance was, nor did they know what sustenance was, and they did not comprehend how to transition from ignorance to knowledge because they are inherently knowledgeable. Angels are manifestations of God's sanctity.
