Embodiment Veil or Medium of Divine Meaning? From Shame to Rootedness

Incarnation: From the Knot of Shame to Rootedness

The knot of shame is a superior view of the lower part of human beings, leading to an absolute judgment that the lower part is something impure. From here comes the famous idea of sin, which appeared in Surah Al-A'raf: “And He led them astray through deception. And when they tasted the tree, their nakedness became apparent to them, and they began to cover themselves with the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called them, ‘Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is an avowed enemy to you?’” (Al-A'raf 22); where the term “nakedness” refers to the private parts, and from the root of "nakedness" we derive the word "evil" or "the bad," which is detestable.

This is an absolute judgment on the lower parts as shameful, disgraceful, and bad, and the ancients explored the idea of what covered this nakedness, with some saying the first human was completely covered in hair, which somewhat aligns with our view, noting that this is just fragments of the truth that myths attempt to tell us, not the full truth.

By following the context of the Qur'anic verses, we find in Surah Al-A'raf and then in Surah Taha references to Adam’s nakedness after he was covered: “Indeed, it is [My] will that you will not hunger therein nor be unclothed (118) And that you will not thirst therein nor be hot from the sun” (Taha 118-119). This nakedness is what caused him to exit his Paradise. Referring to the meaning of "Paradise" in language, which derives from the root "Jinn," meaning covering or sheltering, we say that Paradise here is like a covering and a shelter that hid Adam from external conditions he couldn’t handle alone. Adam here is the fetus, which is closer to the correct interpretation, as the fetus is in the Paradise of mercy and motherhood. The second phase that foretells his exit from Paradise begins when "his nakedness became apparent," and here we favor two interpretations:

The first is that his gender was determined, and the second refers to the approaching birth. The second interpretation is linked to the tree because among its meanings are mercy and birth, and the tree from which he ate is the tree of reproduction. The matter remains unclear if not for the appearance of the nakedness, which signals the formation of another chakra, the root chakra. This points to his ability to root himself, although it is a harsh process, yet it is intentional in the story. Adam’s descent is his exit from the womb, i.e., from below, symbolizing the birth of the fetus.

The Reality of Incarnation and Its Relation to Divine Manifestation:

We can interpret all these myths related to sin and expulsion from Paradise by mapping them onto human life, as they parallel the stages from fertilization to death. It is seen in the formation of the embryo, a physical formation. This leads us to the famous letterist doctrine which states that Adam's body was the one to which the angels prostrated, as it represented the perfection of divine manifestation. The angels, jinn, and Satan did not have a body with complete manifestation, and the letterist group claims that worship is the word, through which humans connect with God. Knowledge is also knowledge of the words as they represent beings, and thus the word comes before meaning. The letterists also believed that God manifested Himself in the human form, particularly in his face, and manifested in successive forms, namely prophecy, sainthood, and divinity. Prophet Muhammad was the last prophet, followed by saints like Ali ibn Abi Talib to Hassan al-Askari, the eleventh imam in Shiism. Fadl Allah is the last of the saints, and he is God incarnate. According to the letterists, God incarnated in Adam, which justifies the story of the command to prostrate, but there are several reservations, including those from the Yazidi doctrine. According to them, the body is a test, and those who did not prostrate succeeded in this test because the body is a temptation or a form of God, not His reality. Those who did not prostrate understood that God's incarnation would defile Him, and thus God blessed those who did not prostrate, meaning those who are not bodies, liberating them from the worldly trial as superior and as leaders of beings. This raises many issues, and in Yazidism, the Peacock Angel (Tawase Melek) is their symbol, sacred to them as the chief of angels. The word "US" is the name of one of the Aryan gods, and thus the name is composed of (Ta - US) (Taus), meaning the light of God (the word). This is the divine meaning that the body cannot contain, according to the Yazidi sect.

As for us, we stand in the middle and say that the divine meaning does not incarnate in one body but is present in the full range of both human and non-human incarnations. The completion of all incarnations reveals to us the divine meaning that does not incarnate. Therefore, we say in the general code: "The unseen is the completion and perfection of witnessing." We say that the body is the body of the source, but it is not the only body. From here, the source is freed from its incarnation to another incarnation, maintaining its flowing nature, and we honor all bodies. This is a balanced and wise statement.

The entire story revolves around the meaning of Adam’s body: those who prostrated saw Adam's body as the incarnation of God, while others saw it as a failure to perceive the meaning of God, as the body is a veil that prevented them from seeing Him.

There are those who considered the body a medium for the appearance of meaning, while others considered it an obstacle and a veil that prevents the manifestation of meaning, which the body cannot contain. When it comes to masculinity and femininity, we say that:

     * The male is a medium for the manifestation of femininity.

     * The male is an obstacle and restriction preventing femininity.

Also, meaning:

     * The male is the incarnation of the source.

     * The male is an obstacle to the source.

This leads to endless issues. Thus, those who did not prostrate have an eternal issue with masculinity, and they blindly support femininity. Those who prostrated support the dominance of the male over the female because the male is more complete and distinct. The source can incarnate in a state of proper incarnation where meaning aligns with form, making the incarnation meaningful, and the meaning incarnate.
